On-Site Testing Capabilities
During a Field Evaluation, our inspectors will conduct any required testing on site using portable test equipment. In some cases, if a site test is not possible, we will make alternate arrangements for the required testing. Specialized testing that cannot be done on site will be subject to additional charges.
Our inspectors are able to conduct the following tests on site:

Hi-Pot Test
Also known as the Dielectric Strength test, the High Potential (Hi-Pot) Test is the application of a specified voltage for a specified duration between the line conductors and non-current carrying exposed metal parts. This test is done to ensure that the integrity of the insulation between live conductors and exposed metal parts is maintained throughout the test.

Strain Relief Test
The Strain Relief Test invovles applying specified forces to cords that are installed in enclosure holes. This test is done to ensure that the integrity of the cord, its conductors and downstream terminations are maintained throughout the test.

Flame Test
Flame Test is the application of a flame to a non-metallic enclosure to confirm its resistance to self-combustion. It is required to ensure that an electric spark will not ignite the enclosure and create a fire hazard.

Temperature Test
Temperature tests are conducted when there is concern about the steady state operating temperature of a product that is capable of generating heat. It is to satisfy the concern that the product will maintain safe temperature under various operating scenarios. Temperature tests are taken at fixed intervals until steady state is reached.

Ratings Test
Ratings Test is a determination of the steady state current draw by a particular product. It is used to establish the correct rating marking and to also ensure compliance to the voltage and current requirements of the applicable circuits. Measurements are taken with voltage multimeters and current meters.

Current Leakage Test
Current Leakage is a test done to simulate a human body’s electrical resistance characteristics to determine how much fault current might flow through a person if they were in constant contact with the product’s non-current carrying exposed metallic parts. It is done to ensure that the leakage value is within a safe value that as prescribed by the applicable product standard.

Stability Test
The Stability Test is done to ensure that a freestanding product will not fall over during normal operation. The product is forced to lean at a specific angle to ensure that it does not result in a tipping hazard.
